This is a grass roots campaign to get the Spaceplane and Earth Orbiting Elevator built. As shown in Step 1 of this website, the first step in this project is the building of the Spaceplane. But before we can build the Spaceplane we need to develop the combination turbine-rocket-ramjet-scramjet propulsion system that is its heart.
Limited work on this has already started. For the last few years NASA has been budgeting funds for work on ramjet-scramjet propulsion systems as a low priority effort. Unfortunately, just about every year those funds are either reduced or eliminated due to Space Station cost overruns and the fact that so few people understand the promise and the significance of this propulsion system. We need to let both Congress and NASA Headquarters know that this current effort isn't enough. We need to tell them about the Spaceplane and the Earth Orbiting Elevator and that we want Affordable to the Individual Space Flight now! Numerious NASA engineers have already reviewed the Spaceplane and Earth Orbiting Elevator concept and have said it was the first idea they had seen that offers a believable path to $100 per pound to Low Earth Orbit!
It's time to start spending more money developing this propulsion system. Lots of wind tunnel tests, some captive carry flight tests, and an X-Plane to test it in flight across its entire speed range using all of the engine modes, turbines, ducted rockets, and ramjet-scramjet!
The X-15, the worlds fastest rocketplane at Mach 6.7 until the Space Shuttle was developed, went from contract signing in June of 1956 to first flight in June of 1959. Just 3 years!
The SR-71, the worlds fastest air breathing airplane at Mach 3.2+, went from contract signing in 1960 to first flight in December of 1964. Less then 5 years!
Using what we know today, we should be able to build an X-Plane using this new propulsion system in a similar amount of time. All it takes is getting serious about doing it.
In other words, we are literally at a cusp in time when just communicating this idea and getting everyone excited about how space flight can be made affordable can change the world! As it says in Part 3 of 'A Gift for Earth', with Affordable to the Individual Space Flight and the resources of the Solar System we can solve the problems of this planet and end just about forever, any thoughts or fears of ever running out of anything ever again!
So tell your friends, tell your elected representatives, tell everyone you know about this website! We've been investing our tax dollars in space exploration for over 40 years now and it is time to make Space Flight Affordable to the Private Individual!
